Tournament & Calcutta
1st Ryan Malley $1700 & $1200
2nd Mike Surber $1170 & $760
3rd Jason Evans $800 & $425
4th George Shimmer $550 & $271
5/6th Jason Moran, Luc Dupierne $380 & $271 (each)
7/8th Joey Aguzin, John Henderson $260 (each)
9/12th Casey Kilian, Mike Eck, Chris Biggard, Mike Trawick $125 (each)
This was a truly exceptional event. Most everyone wanted to have these events sheduled every 3-6 months!! That won't happen here, however "Buff the Stuff" from Buffalo's Billiards in New Orleans might now finally be shamed into parting with some of that poker machine take, and scheduling a similar event.
Also, Memphis Bill Rowsey told me that he's going to plan a similar event at his room in Memphis or Southaven, Miss. in February. He even asked me to help with the handicapping!
Everyone loved the format. So I think we'll see more events of this general type in other locales. That is to say, 1P tournaments with decent added dough, but with some type of handicapping system. Our event shows that the guys will line up to play. No one batted an eye about the $125 entry-- I think because they realized that majority of the contestants had a shot at winning, and 80%+ of the field had an excellent chance to cash.
I was stunned that there were almost NO complaints, whining, or bitching-- a talent that most pool players have perfected...
Even Nick Vita, our only double A player who had to give up
staggering weight all day, said he enjoyed the event, but he would prefer lower AA handicaps. If we do another next year, I may relax the AA handicap a
little so as to give the top dawgs a chance.
Special thanks to John Henderson, Mike Eck, Lou Figueroa, and Bill Bauer, who all travelled great distances to join us in this fun event!!
And special thanks to Matt Highsmith of Cue Sports Video Productions, who came all the way from Atlanta on his own nickel to provide free live streaming for us. Looking forward to working with you again, Matt!
